Aristotle, Facebook, and Friendship

May 9, 7 p.m.

DavidBruce_FFriendship in the twenty-first century has been radically redefined by social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. Or has it? Over two thousand years ago, Aristotle wrote a definitive treatise on the nature of friendship. Find out what he and other philosophers have said on the subject, and whether today’s “virtual friend” bears any resemblance to what they had in mind.

David P. Bruce is the National Secretary of the Theosophical Society in America. He is a third-generation Theosophist and has served at the national center since 2003.
