Art Exhibit "Landscape the Knowable Mystery" by painter Joel Sheesley
Date: April 29, 2015 - June 22, 2015
Event Description
The Billy Graham Center Museum at Wheaton College presents an exhibit by artist Joel Sheesley. The exhibit, titled "Landscape the Knowable Mystery," is a collection of landscape paintings featuring the Lincoln Marsh Natural Area in Wheaton. Joel Sheesley, professor of art at Wheaton College, has been on faculty since 1974. During a recent sabbatical leave he painted intensively in the open air of Lincoln Marsh, the resulting 60 landscape paintings emphasize the vibrant life and profound beauty of the Marsh and represent an encounter with God's "first book," creation itself. "Landscape the Knowable Mystery" is a collaborative cultural art partnership and presentation by artist Joel Sheesley, Wheaton College, and the Wheaton Park District. The majority of the collection is featured in the sacred arts gallery of the Billy Graham Center Museum. The remainder of the paintings is on display at various district attractions and local businesses. An accompanying exhibition catalog is available for purchase at the museum gift shop and the Wheaton College Bookstore.
