On Monday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m. Martha Tabis will present a program entitled “Art Quilts: Materials and Techniques” at the DuPage Art League in Wheaton. She will begin by defining art quilts, how they differ from traditional quilts and when art quilting emerged on the fine art scene. She will also discuss techniques and materials, including paint, mediums, silkscreen, resists, photo-to-fabric techniques, “painting” with thread, and other ways to alter fabric. Learn where to find resources, whether you are an art collector or artist.
Martha is an exhibiting art quilter with many years of experience in the fabric arts. She is fascinated by bold colors and rich textures. Besides art quilts her work includes nature themes, sanctuary art, altar paraments and pet portraits. Her work may be seen at www.marthatabis.com. Martha is a member of the Professional Art Quilt Alliance, the DuPage Art League and the Artists Registry at Episcopal Church and Visual Arts.
