"Messiah" Opening Reception and Live Art Presentation
Date: November 19, 2014
Time: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Event Description
The Billy Graham Center Museum at Wheaton College will host a reception, book signing, and live art presentation to open the Museum's temporary art exhibit "Messiah." Calligraphy artist Timothy Botts will create a work of art in real time from the biblical text of composer G. F. Handel's famous oratorio, accompanied by a live ensemble playing improvisatory excerpts from the music. Botts will sign copies of his books, including pre-orders of his brand new, extended edition, illustrated book "Messiah." Timothy Botts has designed more than 600 books. He teaches, mentors, and curates exhibits for artists and organizations regularly, most recently founding Masterpiece Ministries, an arts outreach to high school students. Musicians from College Church in Wheaton will provide live musical accompaniment, arranged from Handel's "Messiah" by Pastor of Worship and Music Dave Bullock. Bullock was classically trained at The Julliard School. Before coming to College Church he served as minister of music with Stuart Briscoe at Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, WI. Refreshments will be provided. The Museum is open Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Donations are welcome. The exhibit "Messiah: Word Pictures by Timothy Botts" is on display November 7 through April 12, 2015.
