Christians in Israel
Event Description

What about the Christians in Israel?

There are Christians living in Israel. Some families go back to the time of Christ, and the Christians make up a sizable minority; but Israel treats them as second-class citizens. Israel has been the largest beneficiary of U.S. foreign aid, and yet they want Christians to get out of Israel.

Join us at First Presbyterian Church of Wheaton on Saturday, October 4, 2014, for a great breakfast at 8:30 a.m., followed by a presntation at 9:15 a.m. by Dr. Paul Parker explaining how many diverse groups of Christians in Israel are ignored and even marginalized by Israel. Dr. Parker will share stories of his time in Gaza in June/July during the fighting, and give his impressions of his time there and the aftermath.

Paul Parker, Ph.D., Professor and Chair of the Department of Religious Studies at Elmhurst College, has visited the Holy Land over 20 times and lived in Jerusalem last year during his sabbatical, researching Christian ecumenism and state-established religion in Israel and Palestine.

Tickets are $10 in advance ($15 at the door), and reservations will be taken by calling the church office at 630-668-5147. Proceeds go towards supporting peace through education.
