Sep 8    Civic Awareness Program: Preventing Violence: A Panel Discussion
Free in-person program; all are welcome to attend. Can't join us in person? Register if you plan to attend virtually. In-person attendees do not need to register.

Cantigny Park and the League of Women Voters continue their Civic Awareness Series with a panel discussion (in person and online) about preventing violence in our communities and next steps for restoring safety.

Meet the speakers:

Phil Andrew is Principal of PAX Group, a crisis and conflict management consultancy dedicated to helping leaders and organizations navigate dynamic environments. He was previously the Director of Violence Prevention for the Archdiocese of Chicago, and served in the City of Chicago’s Office of Violence Prevention. A former FBI special agent, Phil has led hostage negotiation teams and has expertise in violence prevention, counterintelligence, counterterrorism, and crimes against childrenHe is an adjunct instructor at Northwestern and DePaul Universities, and serves as advisor to the National Security and Human Rights Law Center at Kent College of Law.

Chris Paterson is the Assistant Secretary for the Illinois Department of Human Services Office of Firearm Violence Prevention. Before creating the OFVP, he was the Chief Program Officer at Friends of the Children-Chicago, an organization that provides children facing the greatest obstacles with paid, professional mentors. Prior to joining Friends of the Children, Chris was Senior Director of Programs and Policy for the Institute for Nonviolence Chicago. He has been a thought partner and implementer for Chicago’s largest violence intervention efforts, READI Chicago and Community Partnering 4 Peace.

Registration is not required for those attending the September 8 program at the Cantigny Park Visitors Center, and parking is free.

Please join Living Room Conversations where small groups discuss a variety of topics to better understand everyone's point of view. We promote conversations about the subject of "Community" through openness to others with varying views. No matter how firm your beliefs, courageously listen with curiosity and respect in order to facilitate communication. This month's topic is It Takes a Village.

As custodians of future generations, let's discuss our responsibility in decision-making on children's behalf and effectively engaging with our community. Provided in partnership with the Wheaton Public Library.

Fairhaven Wealth Management is proud to present the second annual HALFWAY to ST. PATRICK'S DAY Charity Golf Event on September 13th, 2022, at Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton.  

 

This golf event supports The Hundred Club of DuPage County. The Hundred Club provides death, disability, and education benefits to survivors of fallen law enforcement officers, firefighters, and other first responders, residing or working in DuPage County, who have been severely injured or lost their lives. 

 

Your attendance will honor the families of police officers and firefighters who put their lives on the line for us every day to protect our communities.

Join the Forest Preserve and the Friends of the Forest Preserve District for A Night for Nature benefit, which return in person and under the stars – on Sept. 15 from 5 to 9 p.m. at St James Farm to celebrate the beautiful wild areas and beloved wildlife of DuPage County.

Experience an enchanting evening: cocktail reception-style gathering, silent auction, live entertainment, wagon-drawn tours of restored McCormick Woods and Spring Brook, a tributary of the West Branch of the DuPage River. Best of all; reap the rewards of connecting to nature at a scenic preserve that abounds with wildlife, sculptures, and other artwork, and cultural history.

We invite your support to make the event a success. Please choose one or more of these options!

Party on the Parkway at the Squares in Wheaton Rice Lake Square, Danada Squares East and West, and Town Square are hosting a progressive dinner benefiting DuPagePads.

We’re starting with registration at Sushi Ukai (281 Rice Lake Square) serving sushi and sake, and then we visit C2 Education (257 Rice Lake Square) and we have a silent auction, then we visit American Mattress (3 Rice Lake Square) and have a special gathering of home and garden businesses. Then we visit the Danada Squares for more food and entertainment. Then we finish our event at Town Square where we announce the winners of our silent auction and have a raffle drawing for additional prizes.

Guests receive a passport and event program when they arrive and get their passport stamped as they visit the participating businesses who have a cluster of balloons outside their businesses. When they arrive at their final destination…they turn in the passports and a drawing is held. Suggested charity donation $35 payable to DuPagePads.

As we visit the businesses, we have several power partners for guests to meet including: American Family Insurance

Join us for Murder Mystery Night - Friends for Life (And Death)! Back by popular demand*, this is sure to be an evening to remember!

The night will begin at the fictitious Zin’s Wine & Cocktails on Front Street (back alley of Emmett’s, follow signs and look for the red light). Complimentary light bites and one beverage ticket per person, provided by 302 Wheaton, will be available at Zin's Wine & Cocktails on Front Street. As the evening proceeds, you will visit several downtown businesses and then gather at Westside Improv to see the final solution revealed! Then sit back and enjoy an exclusive improv show.
