Please join Living Room Conversations where small groups discuss a variety of topics to better understand everyone's point of view. We promote conversations about the subject of "Community" through openness to others with varying views. No matter how firm your beliefs, courageously listen with curiosity and respect in order to facilitate communication. This month's topic is Affordable Housing.

Recently, prices surge while supply plummets. Many workers can’t afford to live near their jobs. Let’s discuss the impact on our community. Provided in partnership with the Wheaton Public Library. Please register to join the conversation!

Apr 12    Civic Awareness Program: Plastic Pollution & Community Solutions
This program is offered in person and online. Those who register in advance will not have to pay the parking fee upon arrival.

Cantigny Park and the League of Women Voters invite the public to their next Civic Awareness Series program on Wednesday, April 12, at 7 pm. (Please note the change in day of week.)

This event focuses on one word: plastics. Versatility and durability makes plastic products and packaging a constant part of our day. But these traits cause problems for the environment. Our reliance on plastics is impacting our health and our planet’s.

An expert panel, moderated by the Daily Herald’s Jenny Whidden, will look at plastics from every angle. Discussion will include:

  • What is plastic, and why we should care?
  • Our waste hauling system and the recovery of certain plastics
  • How to reduce and reuse
  • Potential Illinois legislation to address plastic pollution

Apr 20    Success with Innovation DuPage: A Case Study
The April Wheaton Chamber luncheon features a special panel from Innovation DuPage (ID), including one of their success stories. Dan Facchini, managing director of ID and Dr. Joe Cassidy, assistant vice president, economic development and dean of continuing education and public services at College of DuPage as well as chair and board president of ID, will be joined by Larry Blackburn of Datatelligent. Larry's company is a featured member company of ID. Dan will provide an overview of ID, Larry will share what Datatelligent does and how ID helped his company grow, and Joe will elaborate on how ID partners with companies to accelerate their success. Come learn more about how this local incubator encourages small businesses and entrepreneurs who have ambitious vision--and a lot of support.

MWC offers educational opportunities such as: ESL tutoring in reading, writing and grammar, listening and speaking skills, basic computer classes, assistance with U.S. citizenship and activities for spiritual growth and personal enrichment.
