Taste of Wheaton 2013, Voted Best Community Event – Glancer Reader’s Choice 2012
 
Wheaton, IL. --- Taste of Wheaton, hosted by the Wheaton Park District and the Wheaton Chamber of Commerce will take place May 30 – June 2.  This year’s event is being presented by First Trust Portfolios of Wheaton. 
“This year’s event was planned with careful consideration of all residents, the business community as well as our youngest residents”, Kerry O’Brien, Executive Director, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce.
The new multi-chamber business after hour event, traditional ribbon cutting, food by Arrowhead Restaurant and Bar, and craft beer tasting event will kick-off the Taste on Thursday, May 30 at 5pm in Memorial Park. The evening will feature the presentation of the Wheaton Spirit Award and local entertainment by Chemically Imbalanced and Vital Signs.  Three blocks of carnival rides and games will open along Liberty Street Thursday evening and run through Sunday. 
On Friday, May 31 participants will enjoy the evening carnival, Downtown Wheaton Association entertainment on Hale, more than 20 food vendors, Beer and Wine Garden, Art & Craft Fair and Community Market Place Expo which will continue through Saturday.  Live entertainment begins at 5:30pm and includes country cover bands Nick Lynch and Silversmith Band and the Brass Buckle Band.
Early Saturday morning, June 1, the annual Cosley Zoo Run for the Animals will step off at 7:30am followed by the Zippity Zoo ½ mile run for kids 6-12 years of age at 8:45am.  Registration is available at www.active.com through May 27.  Following post-race breakfast and awards/entertainment, the AAA Motor Club sponsors the new Art in Park series taking place in and around the park and featuring an Arts & Craft Fair, street chalk artist, and the Wheaton Park District will offer a tie dye t-shirt station.  Saturday live entertainment features the Radio Disney Road Crew at 11:30am, local dance and musical performance favorites such as Beyond Glee, Wheaton Starz, Wheaton Crew, Wheaton Irish Dancers, and Serendipity.
“Last year 7th Heaven was a huge hit.  The crowd loved them so we brought them back.  They will be back Saturday night and will close the party following Friction Chicago”, Sherry Krajelis, Taste Entertainment Coordinator, Wheaton Park District.
Many new elements are being added this year, including a block party theme on Sunday along Hale Street.  “This is the first year we are extending the food and entertainment to Sunday, we look forward to continuing our Wheaton celebration”, Rick Erickson, Taste of Wheaton Chair, Wheaton Chamber of Commerce.
The Taste of Wheaton event is held in Memorial Park, located at 208 W. Union Street, Wheaton and downtown Wheaton along Hale and Liberty Streets.  Other sponsors and event supporters include Jerry Haggerty Chevrolet, Downtown Wheaton Association, AAA Motor Club, Community Bank, Weber Orthodontics, Showalter Roofing and DuPage Credit Union.
