Preservation Week Celebrates Wheaton History
WHEATON, Ill. – Wheaton’s Historic Commission encourages you to share in celebrating Wheaton’s history during Preservation Week, May 10-20, 2013. Below are some highlights of events happening during Preservation Week. Full details are available at www.wheaton.il.us/preservationweek.
  • Look for the Pride in Preservation lawn signs marking 150 landmark properties throughout the community.
  • On May 11, this year’s celebration will include a behind-the-scenes tour of the Wheaton Grand Theater, which is currently being restored.
  • Retired Wheaton College history professor Dr. David Maas will give a special lecture on the local impact of the Civil War and the Underground Railroad on May 16.
  • The commission will bring back the Billy Graham in Wheaton Walking Tour May 18 starting from the Billy Graham Center at Wheaton College.
  • Cantigny Park will offer free parking for Wheaton residents May 10-20 with proof of residency. Museums, gardens, and other attractions inside the park are always free admission.
  • The Wheaton Public Library will feature an exhibit on home history research and the commission’s Wheaton Register of Historic Places.
  • DuPage County Historical Museum staff will lead historic walking tours of downtown Wheaton.
